Shine a Light Fundraiser for The Global Syndicate

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of photographing the Shine a Light fundraiser for The Global Syndicate.  ”Founded in 2009, The Global Syndicate (GS) unites socially conscious individuals in support of real action on the ground in the areas of education, clean energy and economic development. The “Shine the Light Campaign” will provide solar powered light solutions to the people of Haiti.”  This was a beautiful event held in the marvelously sunlit Studio 450 on Manhattan’s West Side.  Masters of Ceremonies were Anya Ayoung-Chee, “Project Runway” Season 9 Winner & Former Miss Universe 2008 contestant representing Trinidad and Tobago and Quddus, Host of ABC’s “Duets”, a Canadian MTV VJ and former host of the MTV show, Total Request Live.

Jessica Magary in KidStuff Magazine

I am excited to announce that one of the images I took of a model named Jessica Magary at Fashion Week NYC this past February was published in the Spring 2012 issue of KidStuff Magazine, a publication of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. The magazine features inspiring stories of patients who have overcome illness and injury, and is delivered to about 30,000 of the hospital’s friends and contributors. Jessica was featured on the cover in 1995, and this new article revisits her story.

This is one of the more touching stories/themes I have seen in a long time. It’s also very inspiring. If photography is supposed to capture life, it doesn’t get better than this! Jessica is an exceptional girl and I’m glad you captured this important moment.

Katie Yang Designs – A Rising Star in the Pottery World

I had the pleasure of photographing the amazing pottery of my friend Katie Yang of Katie Yang Designs.  Now I am no expert on pottery, other than that I appreciate great talent when I see it, but don’t let me convince you of her mad skills.  Take it from the experts.  Katie has already been recognized for her work in the short period of time she has been at this.  And as much as I would love to say my photos make her stuff look great, the real pieces are that much better! Take a look and enjoy.

Very unique designs! Still life photography is clearly hard since it depends all on the lighting and the angle. Your pictures make something mundane look extraordinary. There’s a certain loneliness to the pictures which highlights the single object in the frame. That is my opinion. Great work!

A Singer to Watch For – Gandhi

It was January 2012 and, as luck would have it, it was the first of only 2 days that it actually snowed in New York City this past winter. And, of course, we had a 7 a.m. call time! In spite of the adverse weather we made the most of it. The up-and-coming singer Gandhi was all ready for the camera, styled by the crack team of flawless make-up artist Rusty Goff, celebrity stylist and fashion designer Tamae Ishii, and expert hair-stylist Eric Carter. We braved the snow outside and also worked magic in the tight spaces of our gracious hosts, bespoke men’s clothing shop Teddy Boy. Take a look at the fabulous stuff we put together and watch this post for more pictures to come! And make sure to check out Teddy Boy for some fantastic custom men’s clothing!
